Randy Schaeffer, 64, passed away October 22, 2014. He was an associate professor of mathematics, taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in mathematics and mathematics education, and supervised student teachers in mathematics at Kutztown University since 1980. Randy Schaeffer was a tremendous supporter of Kutztown University and will be deeply missed.  He was instrumental in the longevity of the Eastern Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics (EPCTM).

In addition to his teaching and running of EPCTM , he gave generously of his time to the university and beyond.  He served as chair of the University Curriculum Committee, chair of the General Education Committee, the advisor for the mathematics honor society Kappa Mu Epsilon, immediate past co-editor of the Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics (PCTM) Magazine, and former president and current treasurer of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Mathematics Association (PASSHEMA). In recent years, he helped revise the general education curriculum for the university and oversee the implementation of the new general education requirements. Schaeffer also served on the university's Sesquicentennial Committee.

Schaeffer graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kutztown University in 1972.  He served on KU's Alumni Board and was the recipient of KU's 2013 Arthur and Isabel Wiesenberger Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching.  In May he delivered a wonderful commencement address at KU's afternoon ceremony.
